Training for counting official held
KHONSA, May 9: A training was conducted at Khonsa community hall for the officials who had been assigned duties for counting on May 16.
The resource persons and experts highlighted the importance of the duty to be carried out by the counting officials. They demonstrated EVM machine and other intricacies involved while counting.
The training was supervised by the DEO Tirap & Longding Kamlesh Kr.Joshi, and

APETA urges payment of pending arrears
ITANAGAR, May 09: The Arunachal Pradesh Elementary Teachers Association (APETA) has urged the state government to clear all the pending DA arrears of the assistant teachers, Craft teachers, Lab Assistant, Junior Librarian within five months.
In its letter submitted to the commissioner education, it said, the pending arrear since 01.04.1998 to 31.12. 2008 to 31 is Rs. 1,44,37,92,000. And it is Rs. 21, 80, 55,037 from 01.01.2009 to 31.07.2012.
Postal ballot fiasco continues
ITANAGAR, May 09: The Mechuka Block Congress Committee (BCC) today feared foul play in proper dispatch of postal ballots and the delivery procedure in regard to 133 postal ballot papers of 33rd Mechukha.
According to Mechukha BCC acting president Situ Kotin, 133 postal ballots of Mechuka have been registered by the ARO Mechukha on March 28 at Naharlagun post office. But some of the service personnel received the ballot papers of Parliamentary election only and did not receive ballot papers of Assembly election even after a month, the BCC alleged.

Death of former minister Tingkhatra mourned
ITANAGAR, May 09: Speaker Wanglin Lowangdong and the officers and staff of State Legislative Assembly have mourned the demise of former minister Newlai Tingkhatra.
The Speaker had rushed to Delhi to visit him at Medanta Hospital on hearing the news of his brain stroke. He remained there at Delhi till the news of his death was announced. He also paid last tribute to the departed soul at New Delhi. They further prayed to the almighty God to bestow enough strength to the bereaved family members.

CYO expresses concern over pathetic condition of road and drainage
ITANAGAR, May 09: The Capital Youth Organization (CYO) has expressed deep concerned at the sorry state of affairs of the capital roads and its drainage system. Drawing attention of urban and highway department CYO president Bengia Nachung in a letter addressed to head of two departments stated that with the advent of monsoon it has been noticed that roads of twin Capital city is deteriorating. The poor road condition reflects the degree of commitment and attention shown by the concerned deptt, the letter read.
“It is very unfortunate that the concerned department is not at all prepared for
climatic changes and its consequences. Ocean sizes water logging and potholes in
National Highway and Sector roads is creating nuisance for the dwellers of the city.
The poor drainage system becomes a major hurdle for the daily commuters who is earning
for their stomach,” stated CYO. They further alleged that many accidents take place
due to this water logging and potholes, which is hidden underwater. It has been reported

Tribute to a gentleman Mokar Riba

Today on the eighth death Anniversary of my elder brother Lt. Mokar Riba, I share with the family, friends and well wishers some of my memorable moments with him with a tearful adieu.
The year was 1981. The academic session had just begun. New students from village
schools had just taken admission. It was a School debate competition held at the
Auditorium at the beginning of the session. Those were the days good debaters were
looked up with respect among students. I do not remember whether he spoke for or
against the motion. When he stood up and started to speak, there was pin drop silence
in the hall. Everybody was spellbound and few moment later, the hall was filled with
reverberating claps to his each point. Unbelievably even the opponents clapped in
unison. There was complete mass hysteria all around. Such was the oratorical capability
he held. I became his instant fan. He also was a new student who joined back to become
student again after serving as teacher for more than five years in an orphan school

DEO holds meeting for peaceful counting process
BOMDILA, May 09: In order to ensure conducive atmosphere for the counting day and

Opinion poll shows that BJP lead NDA will win maximum seats but still it is not clear whether they will get absolute majority. On the other hand Congress lead UPA have not given up hope and has even hinted that they are ready to extend support to the third front to keep BJP out of power.
With the possibility of hung parliament increasingly looming large, the role of small regional parties will be significant. Parties like AIADMK, BJD, YSR Congress, and TRS have not made their stand clear yet. Many political pundits believe that even parties like NCP, BSP, and SP who have been either part of UPA or extended outside support may also change loyalty post election. BJP on Friday said it does not believe in "political untouchability" and is open to take support from any party. The principal opposition party has started wooing possible alliance and has set tone for post poll political storm.

Let us together prevent forest fire

This is in response to the article published in Readers Forum column of your esteemed
daily dated 1st May, 2014, under the headline “Forest Fire Creates Havoc at the Fringe
Area of Itanagar Wildlife Sanctuary”. It is to clarify that Department of Environment
& Forests, Government of Arunachal Pradesh tries hard to put in all efforts to prevent
and control forest fire in and around Capital Complex every year especially during
dry season. The department caries out awareness campaign programs like-
The beautiful natural forest of Itanagar (as mentioned in the article) is being destroyed by migrants population who come and settle in the Capital Complex from across the state. It is a matter of discussion and we need to find ways for this problem. All possible actions are initiated by the Department to contain illegal activities in the area. It is requested that people of state should understand the land status and policy/ programme of State Govt. We are taking every step to prevent illegal activities with collaborative efforts of police and district administration. The Department is of course concerned about protection and preservation of protected Area, but due to capital project, the matter at times, becomes complicated.
To improve and facilitate local fringe area dweller of Itanagar Wildlife Sanctuary and to support and create sense of belongingness among them, the Department annually keep provisions of fund under various schemes of the state as well as Central Govt. i.e. CAMPA, CSS, TFC, PE etc. for creating awareness programmes, fire protection, management of habitats of wildlife sanctuaries etc. Department also facilitate for poviding items like CGI sheet, LPG Gas, creation of horticulture garden with fencing to the local fringe dweller of Itanagar WLS. There is no base to argue that funds / works are not allotted. The management plan of the sanctuary is also in place. In case of any illegalities are found / detected and brought to the notice, immediate action is taken by the wildlife and forest officials under relevant the Act. This year also the wildlife and forest officials have taken action against the suspected offenders by filing FIRs against them besides taking departmental action as per the relevant Act. Regular occurrence of Forest Fire during dry season every year is really matter of great concern to the Department of Environment & Forests and to every conscious individuals of Capital Complex. Therefore, the Department of Environment & Forests, Govt, of Arunachal Pradesh, once again appeals to the Citizens of Capital Complex, PRI Leaders, NGOs, students etc. to cooperate in preventing Forest Fire and help protect wildlife sanctuary and Reserve Forest in and around Capital Complex in particular and the State as a whole for posterity.

How do you look on Cow/Ox/Bull-
Dear Editor,
This is in response to the article titled ‘RSS turns Arunachal Tribal towards Hinduism’
by one Nitin Sethi that appeared in the local dailies few days back. I, being a local
citizen of this state would like to add some views from my side. As per my understanding
is concern, Mr. Nitin Sethi might be trying to bring the two different religions
into one family i.e., Donyi Poloism and Hinduism in context of their way of worshiping
the nature (moon or Chandra Maa, sun or Surya Dev etc.) and idols (statues of countless
Bagwans and local idol made with bamboo and wood). In whatever way you may try to
mix these two, there is a big question, which has to be known to everyone. How can
donyi poloism and Hinduism be the same? Since, from time immemorial (from forefather’s
time) Cow and Ox are being used for sacrifices during festivals or in special occasions.
Moreover, the tribal people are extensively having habit of eating beef in every
household especially in the village level. On the other hand, Hinduism has great
motherly love and respect for the COW/OX/Bull considering as ‘NANDI’ a close-

As we were struggling with the death of our beloved Mathew, these organizations have come forward to help us. Their assistance has been crucial in getting a Govt. job for a member of the family on compensatory ground. We would like to extend our gratitude to the Chief Secretary, Director and Secretary of Department of Elementary Education, Deputy Commissioner and Deputy Director of School Education East Siang for expediting the appointment process.

Attacks on teacher is unhealthy for society
Dear Editor,
Through your esteemed daily, I would like to put forward my concerns over the repeated attacks on a teacher, that too while performing an examination duty.
It is said that 'teachers are the second parent' and 'school/college is a temple of learning' but the ever increasing attack on teacher is a contradiction to the age old sayings. Indeed, this is an unhealthy trend practised by the those considered future of the society(student) and a very serious matter that every student need to introspect.
The recent attack on the college teacher has come to the limelight not too far since the last attack had taken place. Such physical attack deserve condemnation from all sections of the society and indeed, it is a barbaric act which is unexpected from an educated youth of today. All the students are requested to abstain from indulging in violent acts. We expect various student unions to guide and also take stern action against such offender.
